Uganda's team of Brian Kasirye and Davis Ssenono won a silver medal last night in the doubles as the 2016 All Africa U-19 Badminton Championship concluded in Casablanca, Morocco.


After failing to win medals in the singles and team events, the duo struggled in the final but lost to Algeria's Yacine Belhouane and Samy Khaldi 21-14, 21-13.


To reach the final the duo stopped Egypt's Adram Hatem Elgamal and Mohamed Mostafa Kamel 25-27, 21-19, 21-18 at the semi final stage. Simon Mugabi, the coach and Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) told URN that the competition had been very tough. "We are happy that the boys have won silver," he added.


In the men's singles Kasirye lost at the quarter final stage to eventual champion Adham Halem Elgamal 21-11, 22-20, while Ssenono fell out in the early rounds.


The girls team of Tracy Naluwooza and Husina Kobugabe also failed to go past the second round in the individual's category.


Algeria and Egypt completed the competition with a total of seven medals each, while South Africa bagged four . Uganda and Zambia picked one silver medal and Ivory Coast one bronze medal. The Ugandan team is expected to arrive on Friday aboard an Egypt Airline flight.
