In the draws made on Friday afternoon in Kigali, KCCA FC have been placed in Group B alongside Gor Mahia (Kenya), Telecom (Djibouti), Flambeau de L’est (Burundi) and Rwanda champions APR FC.
The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) released the groupings for the event which will attract 14 teams.
George Msimbe, the KCCA FC Coach URN on phone that the grouping is indeed very tough, but added that winning a tournament means a team needs to be at it’s best to beat top sides. “We shall start preparing on July 14th ahead of the tournament,” added the Coach who has guided his team to two straight league titles.
Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General told URN on phone that the  groupings where made at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday afternoon ahead of the tournament which runs August 8-24th.
He said they expect a very explosive tournament since all the League champions from the respective countries have confirmed participation. “We shall release the fixtures next week,” he added.
Group A will have Ethiopia’s Coffee FC, Rayon Sport (Rwanda), Altabara (South Sudan) and KMKM (Zanzibar) and Rwanda’s Rayon Sport.
Defending champions Vital’O from Burundi have been placed in Group C alongside Banadir (Somalia), Police (Rwanda) and Sudan League champions El Merreikh.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame partly sponsors the tournament with US$60,000 which goes towards the cash prizes.
