The former Uganda Premier League champions who lost their opening match 1-0 to Azam FC on Sunday needed a second half penalty converted by Tom Masiko to win the game.
Derrick Nsibambi was fouled in the box after 62 minutes before Masiko converted the penalty. "We had many chances to win the game, but again missed them. We need to keep working hard and make sure we beat Malakia FC in our last group game to have a chance to qualify for the quarter finals," assistant coach Sam Ssimbwa told URN.
KCCA FC who face the South Sudan team on Saturday are now second in Group C behind Azam FC who have already booked a place in the last eight after two wins.
In the other game played former Ghana national coach Kwesi Appaih led his Al Khartoum team to a second win after seeing off KMKM (Zanzibar) 2-1. The win was enough to push the Sudan team to the quarter finals.
Tanzanian giants Young Africans also returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Djibouti's Telecom FC in a match played at the National Stadium.
Young Africans who missed two penalties scored a brace through Malim Busungu and another coming from substitute Godfrey Mwashiuya.
The regional tournament partly sponsored by Rwanda President Paul Kagame will climax on August 2.
