Visiting Kenya national team humiliated Uganda 48-10 in the first leg of the regional Elgon Rugby Cup played at the Legends Rugby Club on Saturday.

The Simbas looked more solid from the start to finish. Darwin Mukidza picked three tries for the visiting side, while David Ambunya, Vincent Mose, Nato Simiyu and Mike Okombe picked one each.


Uganda only managed a try by Byron Oketayot and Kevin Makmot converted, but Kenya still led 29-10 at the interval. "We failed to play our game right from the start. But we shall go back to the drawing board and plan for the second leg to take place next month," said Uganda's coach Robert Seguya.


"We have been in good form today and this victory is very sweet because Uganda are the Elgon Cup defending champions," said man of the match Mukidza after the game.


The Uganda team will now travel to South Africa for 10-days of training that runs June 10-20. They will use the training camp to prepare for the African Division 1A Championship.


The Rugby Cranes will face Namibia on July 12th July in the African Division 1A match before traveling to Zimbabwe on July 23 and later Kenya on July 30th in Nairobi.
