Kibaale Aspirants Ask For Police Protection

The aspirants say their political rivals are plotting to harm them and some reported receiving threats. They asked the Police Operations Commander, AIGP Haruna Isabirye to give them police officers.

Various aspirants for political positions in Kibaale are asking for police protection ahead of the 2016 general elections. The candidates claim they are getting death threats and other attacks from their opponents.

This was during a meeting with the Director of Police Operations, AIGP Haruna Isabirye at Kibaale headquarters on Thursday. 

One of the aspirants who made the request is Onesmus Twinamasiko, an aspiring MP for Bugangaizi East
Constituency, who claimed that the rival campaign is plotting to set him ablaze in his vehicle.

Isabirye then asked him to file a complaint at police for investigations, but Twinamasiko said he has already engaged police in the matter but with no positive response.

Kibaale District Woman MP aspirant, Jenipher Mbabazi reported that she has been receiving death threats as well.

Denis Namara, the National NRM Youth Chairperson who is now vying for Buyaga County West MP seat claimed that his political rival has reached an extent of tress passing on his home.

Isabirye however said his team would assess the complaints and then make a decision on whether to grant the requests or not.

Kibaale Resident District Commissioner, Samuel Kisembo Araali urged all candidates to remain calm adding that the district will ensure security during the election process. 
Some of the candidates did not attend the meeting.
