Legislators from Kibaale district have petitioned Parliament over the proposed districts which were allocated money in the 2012/20013 annual budget.

In a petition presented to parliament by Buyaga West MP Bernabas Tinkasiimre, the MPs are questioning what happened to the operationalisation of Kagadi and Kakumiro districts.

The petitioners have told parliament that they have got information that the ministry of finance is trying to reallocate the funds that were allocated to the proposed districts without explaining to parliament what is going on.

Cue out: …allocate this money.”//

The petitioners want parliament to redirect the committee of local government to produce a report on the creation of the two districts and to restrain the ministry of finance from reallocating the 2.2 billion shillings that was earmarked for Kagadi and Kakumiiro districts.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga asked the committee on local government to handle the matter expeditiously and report back to the House.

In July last year, the minister of local government Adolf Mwesige moved a motion to have these two districts created this financial year and other 23 districts to be created in the following years up to 2015. Kagadi and Kakumiro were to be curved out of Kibaale district.

The speaker then directed the local government committee to handle the motion and report back to the house. The committee has not yet reported back but committee chairman Jack Sabiiti told URN that the report on districts is ready and waiting for space on the order paper to present it.
