About 400 students of Kinyasano Girls High School in Rukungiri District have staged a demonstration to protest maladministration and the quality of meals served at the school.

The students rejected breakfast, lunch and declined to attend classes on wednsday. They marched to the office of North Kigezi Bishop at St. Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasaano in Rukingiri Municipality demanding the transfer of their head teacher, Mrs. Audrey Kwikiriza.

They accused Kwikiriza of being harsh to them and their parents. They also protested the absence of teachers for Chemistry, Physics and Information and Communications Technology-ICT.

They also accused the administration for preparing poor quality meals and failure to empty the toilets, which they say has compromised hygiene at the school. They demanded that the North Kigezi Bishop, Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi intervene and cause the transfer of Kwikiriza.

Another student from senior two also told our reporter they have not had any ICT, Chemistry and Physics lessons since the term begun due to lack of teachers. Bishop Magezi calmed down the students and promised to investigate the issues raised.

He also promised to convene a meeting involving staff and student leaders to find a solution to the student's concerns. The headteacher, Kwikiriza declined to comment, saying she was still handling the striking students.
