Kyalya Pledges to Review UPE Policy

Independent presidential candidate, Maureen Faith Kyalya Walumbe has promised to review the implementation of the Universal Primary Education-UPE once she is elected president. According to Kyalya, the current implementation of UPE doesn't favor the operations of rural schools.
 

 
Kyalya told voters in Lira town this afternoon that her government will revitalize and pump more money in UPE to improve performance. She also promised to rehabilitate all education institutions across the country within the first two years of her leadership once she is voted into power.

 
 
Kyalya faulted the incumbent government for neglecting the education system. She blamed the poor performance of Dokolo, Alebtong, Otuke, Apac,Kole, and Oyam districts in last year's Primary Leaving Examinations on the current UPE  policy, which she said doesn't provide for a conducive learning environment.
 
 
On Tuesday evening, Kyalya asked Dokolo residents to vote out President Yoweri Museveni for failing to support the education and agriculture sectors. According to Kyalya, there is need to support agriculture, which employs majority of Ugandans.

 
Andrew Otim, a resident of Amwoma Sub County told URN that he expected Kyalya to explain how she will address the problem of biting poverty and corruption in the country. She said there is need to combat corruption if service delivery is to improve.
