Residents of Lamwo are blaming SPENCON Engineering Services of executing shoddy work on the erection of a power line to the district. In 2010, government contracted SPENCON Engineering Services to extend a power line from Kitgum to Lamwo district. It was commissioned in February 2011 by Hilary Onek, the former state minister for energy shortly before the general elections.

However, a few months later the poles have started collapsing yet the power line is incomplete. Jackson Okullu, a resident in Padibe is disappointed by the poor workmanship. Okullu says some of the poles started collapsing long before the power was connected. He now wants government to investigate SPENCON for supplying poor quality poles and doing shoddy jobs.

Simon Amone is equaled disappointed saying the power line was constructed to dupe the public to vote for NRM candidates. He says that with the collapse of several electricity poles power supply to the district is erratic. Mathew Akia, Lamwo District Chairman has backed his electorate.

Akia wonders why the line is breaking only a few months after it was commissioned. He wants an investigation to find out the quality of the poles supplied by the construction company and methods used to treat the poles.

Cue out: “…the maturity of these poles” //

He says the leadership of Lamwo district will put to task all those involved in supplying the substandard poles. The Management of SPENCON has not yet commented on the accusations as none of the officials could be reached.
