Eleven people have died and fifty others injured following a devastating landslide in Bundibugyo district. The mudslides occurred in Humya village in Bukonzo Sub County at 4:00am this morning following heavy rains.

The dead, who include five children, met their death, when mudslides buried their houses. The injured are admitted at Bundibugyo Hospital. At least 30 houses were reduced to rubble and property buried in the mud.

Several hectares of crops were also washed away. David Baluku, a resident of Humya Sub County who survived the mudslides, says he was sleeping when he heard loud noise.

According to Baluku, he shouted asking his wife and children to run out when mud struck from the roof.
