LC V Chairman Clashes with Youth Councilors over Meeting

There was drama at Serere district headquarters on Tuesday after Joseph Opit Okojo, the LC 5 chairperson decided to chair a meeting convened by youth councilors to censure their chairperson. On Tuesday, youth councilors led by Augustine Osuban Okojo, the representative of Olio Sub County convened at Serere district headquarters to censure their chairperson Titus Okello Emiku for allegedly embezzling 12 million shillings meant for their activities.

But to their surprise Joseph Opit Okojo, the Serere district LC 5 chairman decided to chair the meeting. The decision by the LC V chairman to chair the youth meeting didn’t go down well with the councilors. Augustine Osuban Okojo, the Olio sub county councilor confronted Opio accusing him of taking over their meeting illegally. Okojo ordered the LC V chairperson to vacate the seat because he was in their meeting illegally.

The other councilors weighed in accusing the LC V chairperson of siding with the embattled youth chairperson. Opio explained that he took over the meeting to guide the youths to operate within the law and laid down administrative procedures. His explanation landed on deaf ears as the youth councilors insisted that the LC V chairperson vacates the seat in vain. As a result, the youth council meeting aborted prematurely.
 
Augustine Osuban Okojo, the Olio sub county councilor told URN shortly after the aborted council meeting that they wanted to censure Okello for misappropriating money for implementing youth activities in 10 sub counties in the district.

Georgina Aanyu, the female youth councilor they will continue with their plans to censure their chairperson. She accuses Okello of embezzling money meant to facilitate youth representatives to attend International Youth day celebrations in Kabala and Arua districts. But Titus Okello Emiku, the embattled Serere Youth chairperson dismisses the allegations against him saying those who called the meeting to censure him are fools. He has vowed to a wage political war against those behind the meeting.
