Joan Pacoto, The Lira Resident District Commissioner has ordered the Chief Administrative officer, to investigate the circumstances under which the Mobile telephone service provider MTN acquired land in Aloi sub-county.
The order stems from a petition by the residents of Aloi sub-county protesting the circumstances under which MTN acquired the land in the area.
The petitioners claim that MTN used the wrong means to purchase community land, on which a mast is being constructed.
MTN is constructing their mast on a hill in Aloi Sub County.
The residents also accused their district council representative, Michael Omara, of foul play in the transaction. But Omara denies any wrongdoing.
Omara says he had never been approached by the MTN firm requesting for a space to construct it masts.
Paul Odom Aryam, MTN's area manager, says the company followed the right channels to purchase the land under contention.
