A man believed to be is his forties was on Sunday found dead in the Kyiriba-Kyathumba hot spring in Kibenge area, Bulembia division in Kasese municipality.

Police confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Francis Byakunaga, a resident of Base Camp, who had gone to bathe in the healing hot spring.

Laurence Okello, the Deputy Officer-in-Charge Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Kasese Central Police Station, said the body was taken to Kilembe Hospital for a post-mortem exam to discover what might have caused Byakunaga’s death.

Okello said post-mortem tests indicated Byakunaga was drunk at the time of his death. The tests suggested that he could have suffocated.

The body was handed over to the family for burial.

According to the Kyiriba-Kyathumba hot spring caretaker Rogers Sunday Bahalha, the deceased was a cleaner at the site who knew he was not allowed to go for healing baths beyond 10pm on Saturday night when business had closed.

Bahalha said it was the first group of customers who had come for healing baths in the morning who found the deceased lying on a log in the hot spring.

The caretaker added that stricter observance of rules had been put in place to avoid a reoccurrence. He said that healing bath would open at 6.00 am and close by 10.00 pm.
