Man Held for Defacing Museveni's Campaign Posters

The police in Budaka District have arrested a 30 year-old man for defacing a campaign poster of president Museveni. Eddie Aluma, the officer in-charge political and election offences, says that James Kasawo, a resident of Bukaduka village, Jami parish, Kamonkoli sub-county, was caught red handed defacing and destroying Museveni's posters. He allegedly committed the offence on Sunday night. Martin Otim, the district police commander, says that residents arrested Kasawo, on the following numerous complaints against him. He allegedly launched the defacing campaign a few days to the arrival of President Museveni in Budaka district. The DPC says that the motive behind the defacing of posters is purely to destroy other candidate's posters. Kasawo will appear in court shortly. According to the presidential election Act 2005, upon producing enough evidence, a person on conviction will either face one year in jail or a fine of 480,000 shillings.
