A short High Court session has opened in Masindi with the sentencing to four years in prison of a 24-year-old man found guilty of defilement. Justice David Wangutusi found Silver Tumwesige of Kyatereka village in Kibaale district guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl on July 9th 2006. According to the prosecution, Tumwesige attacked the girl while she was on the way to meet her father at his workplace. The girl raised an alarm and was rescued by neighbours. Tumwesige, who was a domestic worker for his victim's parents, pleaded guilty and asked for leniency. Justice Wangutusi condemned Tumwesige for betraying his victim's trust and sentenced him to four years in jail. Tumwesige was immediately whisked to Masindi government prison by prison warders to serve out his sentence. The Masindi High Court is scheduled to hear a total of 60 capital cases.
