The Masaka district Department of gender is being investigated for embezzlement.
A report by the Committee on Gender issues, presented to the district council today showed that the gender department has not accounted for any money since 2006.
The report also indicates that the District Secretary for Gender, Lillian Musisi, blocked the committee members from accessing the department files.
The gender committee chairman, Fred Mulindwa, said that the department receives a total of 1.6 million every month to be distributed among groups of the youths, women and PWDs. He however said that there is no evidence to show that the money was well utilized.
During a meeting held today, the district council resolved that the accounts of the gender department be frozen and an investigation be opened into the matter.
According to Mulindwa the accounts will be opened on completion of the investigations.
