Bogere met his death on Tuesday evening while quarrying at Magamaga rock in Wairasa Sub County. David Walwana, an eye witness says that he was sleeping inside his house in Magamaga trading center at around 6pm when he heard people calling him, only to rush out and find his colleague buried in the quarry.

He describes the death of Bogere as a big loss to the local quarrying association where he has been their treasurer. Abdul Nasser Mulimira, a local official, says he plans to invite the Environment Officer to sensitize residents on the dangers of stone quarrying.

He says while quarrying is a good business, it has many risks. This is not the first time a person is being trapped in a mine. In 2013, Sulait Masaba, a resident of Kibuga Mbaata village in Walukuba / Masese division was buried in Masese stone quarry.

Moses Maganda, the Jinja District Environment Officer says following the incident, the tunnels in Masese stone quarry were fitted with reinforcements to protect the miners. He says each of the miners was compelled to buy protective gears like gloves, helmets and boots for their safety.
