The detective says two of the minor incidents involved locals beating up a suspected mobile phone thief
in Rwebikona areas of Mbarara municipality.

Twisimye says another thief who attempted to steal mobile phone from an elderly woman near Mbarara regional referral hospital. He was arrested and is currently detained at Mbarara central police station.

Police records indicate that only two houses were broken into in Kakoba division during Christmas weekend.

Twisimye attributed the peaceful Christmas to tight security surveillance by a combined force of Uganda police and UPDF.

Before Christmas, the director of operations in the police force, assistant inspector of police Grace Turyagumanawe, pitched camp in Mbarara, following a wave of insecurity in the area that left four people including a two security officers dead.
