Mbarara City FC in Massive Clean Up Campaign

Mbarara City Football Club players and their fans have embarked on a campaign to keep Mbarara town clean ahead of their maiden appearance in the Azam Premier league.
 

The club officials, players, their fans and Mbarara municipal officials descended on the streets of Mbarara town this morning in a massive cleanup exercise.
 
 
They cleaned areas around Mbarara taxi and bus parks, Mbaguta Street, Bishop Willis Street and Bulemba road among others. 

Mike Dungu, the Public Relations Officer, Mbarara City FC, says they decided to clean the town and appeal to the local community to support the team.

Bonny Tashobya, a fan of Mbarara City FC and Speaker Mbarara Municipal Council, says they decided to clean the town because they want their club to play in a clean environment.

According to Tashobya, Mbarara municipality accumulates 150 tons of garbage each day but only collects 120 ton.

 
He says they intend to use football to create awareness among residents on responsible waste management.

Dickson Nagaba, a resident of Bubaare Sub County in Kashari County, says he joined the clean up campaign to rally support from residents and the neighboring districts to support the young team.
 
 
Mbarara city FC alias the Ankole Lions has already signed three players to strengthen its team. The team will face Express FC tomorrow in a highly anticipated friendly match at Kakyeka stadium.
 
 
Mbarara City Foot Club was founded in 2010 as Citizens FC after the management of Citizens High School in Mbarara decided to start a team to compete in competitive football to help nurture young talent at the school.
 
 
The team competed in the Western Uganda Regional League starting from 2010 to 2014. It won the 2014 Western Uganda Regional League and was promoted to the FUFA Big League. 

In 2015, Citizens F.C. was renamed Mbarara City F.C mainly to get acceptability among Mbarara residents and tap into the huge fan base although the team remained under the management of Citizens High school.
 

On May 5, 2017, the team qualified to play in the Azam Uganda Premier League after defeating Synergy F.C.  Mbarara City FC will use Kakyeka Stadium as its home ground.
