Mbarara House Fire Kills Two

Police in Mbarara district is investigating circumstances under which a man locked himself in a house with a girlfriend and set it ablaze.

The man, in his late 20's reportedly smuggled petrol into a rented room in Katete cell, in Mbarara Municipality on Tuesday evening.  Moments later, the house was on fire, according to area residents.

Although the man was dead by the time police arrived at the scene, the girl, later identified as Penina Natamba, a former student of Bishop Stuart University was rescued from the inferno although with severe burns. She died moments later at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.

Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says that preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had disagreements with the boyfriend who accused her of messing with other men.
 
Natamba is from Kagongo division in Sheema Municipality Sheema district.
