Mbarara Municipality Secretary for Finance Benon Kajubi said that the funds, raised from local revenue will be spent on infrastructural development projects, some of which have been outstanding for a lengthy period. This includes the construction of Katete Bridge, upgrading Kitunzi road and erecting street lights along High street.

Katete Bridge, which connects Nyamitanga to Mbarara town across River Rwizi, is used by hundreds of people from areas such as Katete, Birere, and Masha. However, it has been in a poor state in the recent past triggering demonstrations in the area.

Part of the money will also be used to undertake sensitization programmes on Women Empowerment and on Youth Fund, according to Kajubi.

Bonny Tashobya, the Speaker of Mbarara Municipal council says that since the municipality managed to secure extra local revenue after its business evaluation this year, it was prudent to grant them a chance to finalize pending projects.
