Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Micho Sredojevic has said his team still have a chance to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Afcon finals.

Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho' Sredojevic has said his team still have a chance to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.

Speaking after the Cranes were held to a goalless draw by 10-man Burkina Faso at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Tuesday night, the Serbian said Group D is now wide open with each team remaining with two games to play.

"We were planning to qualify ahead of time, but we now have to go back to the drawing board and work hard for the remaining game away to Botswana in June and the home game against Comoros in September," said Sredojevic.

The coach said that he has not lost hope because if they win both games and Burkina Faso also win their games, then both teams will qualify for the tournament in Gabon.

Sredojevic said that it was a case of hard luck failing to win at home even after Moses Oloya had a last minute chance to score a winning goal. The second half substitute found himself in-front of goal and blasted the ball out when it looked easy to place past Daouda Diakite.

Because of a better head to head situation Burkina Faso lead Group D with seven points, while Uganda who have the same number of points are second, Botswana third on six points and Comoros are bottom with three points.

In the other games played on Tuesday involving teams in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region Ethiopia held African giants Algeria 3-3, while Rwanda thumped Mauritius 5-0 in Kigali. Burundi also managed a 3-1 victory away to Namibia.

Nigeria's hopes of qualification were shattered when they lost 1-0 away to Egypt and DR Congo humbled Angola 2-0 in an away game.
