Micho told URN in Lubumbashi, DR Congo this afternoon that since Uganda will start with the preliminary round, preparations should start early. The Cranes head coach is in DR Congo to watch SC Victoria University face CS Don Bosco tomorrow in the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round.

The Cranes were late last month placed among the 30 nations that will have to battle through the preliminaries before making it to the group stage. The preliminary games will be held between May and August.

The Coach reasoned that although he was shocked that the format of qualification was changed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and Cranes placed in the preliminary round of the qualifies, it will only be fair to get the squad in shape early with some build-up matches.

He revealed that he intends to pick eight youthful players from the team that featured in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa last month. Although the Serb refused to disclose the names of the eight players, he said striker Junior Yunus Sentamu who scored all the three goals for Cranes will be part of the squad.

The Cranes who came close to qualifying for the last two Editions of Afcon last qualified appeared in the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations where they lost to hosts Ghana in the finals.
