Minister Abraham Byandala Arrested Over Katosi Saga

Minister Without Portfolio Abraham Byandala has been arrested and arraigned before the anti-corruption court on charges of embezzlement and fraud.

Byandala, who was the former works minister has been under investigation for his role in the illegal award of a contract to EUTAW a firm that was awarded the deal to construct the Mukono-Katosi road.

A damning report by the Inspector General of Government-IGG had earlier pinned Byandala for forcing the Uganda National Roads Authority to sign and advance 24.7 billion shillings payment to a non-existent firm, EUTAW.

It was discovered by the IGG that the EUTAW construction company that won the tender had no relations to the firm in the US that it had used as its parent company.

Byandala was arrested this afternoon at the office of the IGG together with Apolo Senkeeto, a financial analyst who is the director of the EUTAW company.

The spokesperson of the IGG, Ali Muniira confirmed  to URN that the suspects were arrested today at the office of the IGG where they had been summoned to attend a session

Byandala is currently appearing at the Anti-corruption court.
