Minister Rallies Karamoja Veterans To Support Age Limit Removal

The State Minister for Veteran Affairs, Bright Rwamirama has rallied veterans in Karamoja region to support the presidential age limit removal.

 
Rwamirama, who was in Moroto as part of his countrywide tour to update the veterans on the progress of their compensation and pension took the better part of day to explain why the presidential age limit cap should be scrapped. 


He explained that while the opposition has triggered anxiety in the country over the proposed scrapping of the presidential age limit, veterans ought to be to the incumbent government for considering them.

Rwamirama scoffed at the opposition for insisting on the presidential age limit cap to dislodge president, Yoweri Museveni.

In his response, Marino Abala Otuu, the chairman of the Veterans in Abim district, said they are behind the proposed amendment, saying it is the only the way they can ensure peace and tranquility in the country.

On the payment of the veterans, Rwamirama said more than 140,000 screened have been screened and approved for payment. He disclosed that so far 60,000 veterans have been cleared, adding that government plans to clear all pending payments within two years.



The Forum for Democratic Change Party president, General Mugisha Muntu has blasted the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party for coercing people to assent to the age limit amendment.
