The elderly persons in Mitooma district are crying out for government support.

60-year-old Bagazonzya Fuderi, of Kashenshero has defied his age to work as a shamba “boy”, but his happiness is dashed by the 25,000 shilling which is paid as a salary at the end of the month.

Fuderi is very unhappy about the exploitation he has to endure in his old age.

Kyomuhendo Judita, aged  72 years is taking care of her grandchildren following the death of his sons. She says that while her grandchildren could benefit from UPE, the cost of buying scholarstic materials is expensive for her.

Judita says her grandchildren have dropped out of school and have now resorted to selling fruits in the town council to get money to carter for the family.

Both Fuderi and Judita want government to come to the aid of the elderly persons and improve their living conditions.

Charles Nshubuga, the chairperson Kashenshero united to survive association, a non governmental organization dealing with the elderly in Mitooma, says his organization does not have ample support to take care of all the needs of the elderly persons.
