Albert Lokoru, the Tepeth MP and Stella Atyang, the Moroto Woman MP, says their position on the age limit will not affect the views of the electorate in case they vary.

Security heads comprising the police, prisons and internal security in Moroto have held a closed door meeting with Members of Parliament from the district on the age limit consultations.  The meeting, held at Tamarin Inn in the outskirts of Moroto town, sought ways of conducting consultations with the electorate on the proposed presidential age limit removal.

The MPs who have been silent since the debate on the presidential age limit started, sought guidance from selected leaders and security heads on how to reach their electorate. Those in attendance included the Regional Police and Prisons Commanders, District Police Commanders, Intelligent Officers, Moroto CAO and Town clerk, NRM leaders and selected district councilors among others.

It is reported that the meeting commenced with officials from the NRM party and Security heads demanding the legislators to state their position on the age limit to guide the discussions. Sources in the meeting told URN that after the MPs declared their support for scrapping the presidential age limit, the meeting then discussed ways of maneuvering the electorate to consent to the amendment.

Jackson Angella, an elder in Rupa and one of the persons who attended the meeting, says the meeting resolved to back the scrapping of the presidential age limit and restore term limits. He adds that members also want the extension of political term from five to seven years.

But Joseph Osoto, the Moroto Resident District Commissioner who reportedly selected and signed invitation letters, argues that the meeting was for security committee ahead of consultations. Osoto said they had to deploy after learning that some people had plans of disrupting the meeting.

Albert Lokoru, the Tepeth MP and Stella Atyang, the Moroto Woman MP, says their position on the age limit will not affect the views of the electorate in case they vary. The MPs said their choice to consult with security organs first was informed by the diversity among residents on the proposed amendment of Article 102 [b].

Although NRM enjoy mass support in Karamoja, the proposed amendment has drawn diversionary views especially among the elites.
