Kampala Central Member of Parliament Mohammed Nsereko is currently being held at the Central Police Station (CPS) on allegations of defrauding Crane bank.

A number of his relatives and supporters have gathered at the CPS to see what has find out what the details of allegations against him.

Mohammed Nsereko is an NRM Member of Parliament who is critical of the NRM government. However it’s not yet clear why he is at CPS.

Mohammed Nsereko’s sister, Zurufa Nsereko, confirmed her brother was at CPS but was not certain what he was there to do. She said Nsereko might be at CPS in connection with withdrawing money from Crane bank. She says Nsereko was arrested from Market Street in Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Ibn Senkumbi also confirmed Nsereko was CPS where he was meeting with the Regional CID officer, Charles Kataratambi.

This week local media reported that staff at Crane bank had recorded statement in connection with the transfer of 300 million shillings from the bank and paid out through Western Union to Nsereko. On Monday Police tried to trap Mohammed Nsereko, who they claimed had entered into Crane bank, but failed to arrest him.

Police sources told the media that Nsereko is wanted for money laundering, a crime that involves disguising ill-gotten wealth.

Uganda is still in the process of enacting an anti-money laundering law that will make it criminal for one to disguise his sources of income.
