A security guard attached to telecommunication giant MTN in Omoro district in Northern Uganda is in trouble for theft of radio equipment.

Police picked up Patrick Ouma, a security guard overseeing MTN mast at Moro Hill in Opit trading centre in connection with the theft of radio equipment belonging to Radio Maria in Gulu district.

The hill also hosts vital telecommunication masts and repeater transmitters of major radio stations in Gulu district. It is alleged that Ouma broke into the room housing the transmitter of Radio Maria last week and made off with two batteries and 50 litres of fuel.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River Police Spokesperson says Ouma was arrested on Wednesday evening from his work station in Labworomor village in Opit Sub County.

Okema says the isolated hill has suffered many incidences of theft aided by bushy compound, lack of security lights and poorly manned security.

Okema says Police recovered 20 litres of fuel from the suspect. Ouma's trouble stems from a case of burglary filed by the director of Radio Maria, Charles Onen last Friday.

Ouma is yet to record statement.

Okema urged companies with equipment at the hill to double-check the security of their equipment at the site by employing robust security measures.
