MTN Uganda is stuck with hundreds of certificates for participants who take part in the MTN Kampala International Marathon.
The marathon now in its fourth edition has become one of the biggest annual events in Kampala.
But Aggrey Kagonyera, the chairman of the Marathon's organizing committee says several participants never bother to pick up their certificates despite the fact that MTN has been incurring huge expenses to print the certificates.
Kagonyera says that the company has now resolved not to print out any more certificates in order to cut down on the costs. He however says that the Marathon enthusiasts can still access an online certificate.
This time round, results of the Marathon will be delivered by Short Message Services (SMS) to every participant as soon as they cross the line.
Faustino Chiwa, the Uganda Athletics Federation organizing Secretary, explains that this year's marathon will be used as a qualifier to other international events.
Chiwa says the Uganda Athletics Federation has hired the services of Abbey Mukiibi for the fun commentary while the federation's Kavuma Lawrence will be responsible for the technical concerns that include the starting order.
More than 10,000 runners are expected to participate in this years MTN marathon. The marathon due on Sunday has also attracted elite runners from Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.
