Muslims In Karamoja Urged To Embrace Education

Muslims in Karamoja  have been urged to embrace education to help in their spiritual growth.

Sheik Auni Aramazan,  the district Khadi Karamoja Muslim council made the call in an interview after leading Eid Al Fitr Prayers today in Moroto. 

He notes that while some people consider education as material wisdom, but   Allah requires his followers to have both material and spiritual wisdom to grow.

His call follows concerns over poor enrollment at Kakoliye Muslim primary school located Moroto Municipality. The Muslim pupils enrollmenthas declined over the years.

Sheik Auni says education provides basis for the strong foundation for Islamic faith and the world.

Azida Namukuta, member of the Muslim family in Moroto also neighboring the school premises says children are stubborn and prefer street life to education. She wants the authorities especially police to help arrest children on the streets.

Hundreds of Muslims turned up for prayers at a mosque in Camp Swahili to mark end of fasting season. The Eid al-Fitr day was declared yesterday after moon sight in UAE  Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and other parts, along with Qatar, Bahrain and other Gulf countries on Saturday. 

There are 9,250 pupils enrolled in schools across Moroto district this year with more than 3000 in Municipality schools. However, more than 30,000 of the school going age children are at home in Moroto district.
