Dr. Kizza Besigye, the Forum for Democratic Change party, presidential candidate has promised to tackle land grabbing in Bunyoro region once elected into power.

Besigye told voters at various rallies in Hoima on Friday, that FDC has a special manifesto to decisively address the problem of land grabbing, which has greatly affected Bunyoro.

Land grabbing is prevalent in the oil rich areas of Buliisa and Hoima districts, where powerful individuals grab land from the poor. Besigye promises to halt the issuance of land titles in conflict areas, amend land laws and institute a commission of inquiry into illegal land transactions.

Speaking in Runyankore, Besigye pledged to have a deliberate policy to sensitise the citizens on land laws arguing that people lose their land because they are ignorant of the law.

Besigye also pledged to operationalise regional governments so that regional issues are handled at regional level. His promise is a direct answer to the long standing demand from Bunyoro for a regional tier.

Besigye's rally at Hoima boma grounds almost degenerated into chaos when Police tried to stop him from campaigning beyond 6pm. Angry voters shouted at Benard Akankwansa, the Hoima District Police Commander for attempting to stop Besigye prompting Major General Mugisha Muntu, the FDC president to pull him aside for a discussion.

The former army commander convinced police, which played an observer role as the rally stretched to 7pm. There was also drama as the crowd shouted at the convoy of NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni on his way to Masindi from Kibaale.

The crowd flushed the FDC Victory sign at the convoy. Besigye also addressed mini rallies in Bugambe,Buseruka and Kyangwali sub counties.
