Ronald Ndawula defeated the candidate fronted by Abdul Nadduli, in an election some area leaders say is a sign Nadduli is losing control of the district.
Ronald Ndawula has won the Luweero NRM district chairperson seat in what is seen as a blow to the LC 5 chairman and outgoing district party chairperson, Abdul Nadduli.
Ronald Ndawula defeated Ali Ndawula Ssekyanzi, the former Bamunanika County MP who was backed by Nadduli.
The Luweero district NRM registrar David Kamugisha declared Ronald Ndawula winner for the seat after he garnered 314 votes against Ssekyanzi's 78 votes, and Carol Nalubega's 14 votes.
Area leaders say this is a vote of no confidence on Nadduli. Sam Sserunjogi, the LC 3 chairperson for Katikamu sub-county says it was an eye opener that Nadduli is losing his grip in the district. According to him, Nadduli should instead play an advisory role to new leaders.

Nadduli however told URN that the Thursday NRM election results won't affect his candidature for the party ticket to retain the LC 5 seat. Nadduli says that the election for flag bearers is done by a different electorate from the one that elected the district party chairman.
Immediately after declaration of results, Ndawula promised to lobby for projects in order to transform the district which he says has lagged behind in development despite its contribution to the war that brought President Yoweri Museveni to power in 1986. Ndawula and his team had left the tally centre by the time results were declared.
