Seven people have been confirmed dead in four days in Nakaseke district this week.

The Nakaseke district Police Commander, Edward Kyaligonza, reports that the first death was reported on Monday from Kapeeka Sub County. A seven-year old, John Adeka was knocked dead by one Micheal Nyombi, a boda boda cyclist, at Kikondo village in Kapeeka Sub County.

He says Nyombi was riding a motorcycle UDR 744R when he knocked Adeka dead. Nyombi was arrested and is detained at Kapeeka Police Station.

Kyaligonza says two men only identified as Okello (36) and Twalib (32), all residents of Kalagala village in Wakyato Sub County, were found dead in a farm after they ate what is thought to have been poisoned meat.

In Kinoni Sub County at Kyamatyansi village, a father and son drowned in a dam on Wednesday. They had gone to fetch water at the dam when the son fell into the water and the father jumped in to rescue him. They were identified as Robert Muhairwe (4) and a Emmanuel Nkyerabigwe (34).

Kyaligonza adds that other two juveniles yet to be conclusively identified also drowned in a swamp at Nabisojjo village in Wakyato Sub County while fishing.

Kyaligonza says police is trying to sensitize the public to be more careful when it comes to using water bodies. He says the district is registering a high number of deaths by drowning that could be avoided with a little more caution.

Last month two siblings Jorum Sembajjwe (4) and Jovia Nantege (2) drowned in a well while trying to follow mother in Wakyato Sub County in Nakaseke district.
