Namayingo Cholera Death Toll at 2, 56 Admitted

The death toll as a result of a cholera outbreak in Namayingo district has reached two and 56 admitted in critical condition.
 
The district health officer Namayingo Doctor Patrick Magoola identified the deceased as Suleiman Kirya (25) a peasant farmer and resident of Malwanda landing site, Mutumba sub county Namayingo district.
 
The sick are currently admitted at Buyinja health center 4,Dabani health center 4 in Busia and Mulombi health center 2 in Mutumba sub county Namayingo district.
 
The deceased was buried on Thursday at Mulwanda landing site by a small number of mourners because the result of the community shunned the funeral for fear of contracting the disease.
 
Magoola said the number of patients being admitted suffering from cholera is likely to continue rising because of the rainy season.
 
He said all the admitted are also residents of Malwanda landing site.
 
Magoola urged members of the public to ensure they drink boiled water besides washing their hands before eating anything as a way of avoiding contracting the cholera disease.
 
The cholera focal person Namayingo district Julius Oria attributed the outbreak of cholera at the landing site on low pit latrine coverage besides failure by locals who comprise of fishermen on the landing site to exercise cleanliness.
