MP Mutyabule Suffers Defeat in Primaries

In Busiki County, the incumbent MP Asupasa Isiko Mpoongo trounced his rivals Musa Mutabaali, Joshua Batwala, Charles Batambuze and Paul Akamba to clinch the NRM party flag.

Florence Mutyabule, the Namutumba Woman MP is the latest incumbent to lose in the National Resistance Movement Party primaries. Mutyabule suffered a humiliating loss to her rival Mariam Naigaga in the party primaries held on Saturday.

 
According to the final results announced by William Bravon Mugabi, the Namutumba district NRM Party Registrar Mutyabule polled 18, 671 votes against Naigaga's 44,182 votes while Lydia Kibwika came third with 2,725 votes.
 
 
Mutyabule has declined to concede defeat saying the elections were not free and fair adding that her opponent's polling agent was arrested with declaration forms, which she suspects could have been used to alter the results.  
 
Police confirmed the arrest of a local councilor, allied to Naigaga's camp with ten declaration forms. Mutyabule says she is consulting her legal team on her next course of action.
 
 
In Busiki County, the incumbent MP Asupasa Isiko Mpoongo trounced his rivals Musa Mutabaali, Joshua Batwala, Charles Batambuze and Paul Akamba to clinch the NRM party flag. Isiko polled 17,410 votes against Charles Batambuze's 1,220.
 
Batambuze says they intend to petition the NRM Electoral Commission over irregularities in the polls. Salleh Kumbuga emerged winner of the NRM flag for the Namutumba district LC V chairperson' seat.

 
He polled 27,938 votes beating his closest rival Patrick Mutyaba who got 21,046 votes. The primaries in Bukono constituency were called off after the name of Charity Namuwooza, one of the candidates was found missing on the ballot papers.



The other candidates are the Incumbent Namutumba LCV Chairman Michael Saire, Persis Namuganza, the former Luweero deputy RDC and Daniel Kalyoowa. William Bravon Mugabi, the Namutumba District NRM party Registrar says a new date for the polls will be announced.
