The body of the minor was recovered from Railway crossing, on Gulu - Kampala highway three days ago. This as the total number of fatalities increases in the district.

The latest victim is John Paul Owike, a four year old minor killed on Thursday morning while on his way to school. The others include 39 year old Odong Tommy Olanya, Pece Division Councillor, who also died along Gulu Kampala highway in September.

The two are part of 15 people killed in road accidents in Gulu town over the past two months. In September, 8 people died while seven were seriously injured compared to six deaths in August when nine serious accidents were recorded.

Police attributes the carnage to reckless driving, over-speeding and carelessness of some pedestrians.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa river region police spokesperson says most of the accidents victims are motorcycle taxi drivers commonly known as boda boda. He advised residents to be cautious as they celebrate independence anniversary this coming weekend.

Gulu is experiencing a robust post-conflict transport infrastructure improvement alongside high population growth and increasing number of vehicles.
