Nodding Disease Brought to the Attention of British Prime Minister

President Yoweri Museveni together with the Cua county Member of Parliament, Oryem Henry Okello has brought the issue of nodding disease to the British Prime Minister, David Cameron.
 
Oryem who is also the Minister of state for international Affairs  and President Museveni briefed the British prime minister on Friday, during a conference on Somalia held in London.
 
The meeting in London brought more than 40 world leaders together to co-ordinate efforts against piracy, poverty and famine, and to discuss the country's civil war.
 
But this did not stop the Foreign affairs minister, Hebry Okello Oryem to chip in the nodding disease, which has become a major puzzle to health authorities in Uganda.
 
The minister said that he is using his diplomatic connections to take the nodding disease crusade to the higher levels.
 
Oryem says their meeting with Cameron will result in to a number of interventions that will go a long way, in helping the affected children in Acholi Sub Region.
 
Nodding disease has affected over 3000 children in Kitgum, Lamwo and Pader.
Kitgum alone has recorded 1,271 cases of nodding disease.

It present itself with nodding of the head especially on seeing food, mental retardation, body wasting, involuntary defecation and urination and endless running nose and saliva. The causes of the disease are still unknown, despite several attempts by the MOH/WHO and CDC to research into its possible causes.
