The National Resistance Movement - NRM party Electoral Commission has called off by-elections for Iganga parliamentary and mayoral flag bearers.

John Arimpa Kigyagi, the NRM Electoral Commission Deputy chairperson says they will only conduct by-elections for the flag bearer for the Iganga LC V chairperson's seat in the villages where the polls didn't take place.

These include 14 villages in Namungalwe Sub County, three in Bulamagi and two in Nakigo Sub County.  The decision to call off the by-elections for the other positions has not gone down well with some of the candidates.

Brenda Asinde contested for election as the NRM candidate for the Iganga Woman MP seat and lost the polls. She petitioned the NRM EC contesting the poll results citing irregularities such as vote rigging.

Asinde says it is unfortunate that the party Electoral Commission has decided to neglect their petitions. According to Asinde, the Iganga District NRM Party registrar Yazid Kirunda even confessed to the anomalies when confronted by the candidates.

Cue out "…vote on Saturday."//

Asinde says when the party Electoral Commission announced plans to conduct fresh by-elections they started mobilising their voters. She says it is unfortunate that by-elections have been called off yet had invested a lot of money in their mobilisation efforts.

Ezra Gabula, a former aspirant for Kigulu North faults the Registrar for messing up the polls. According to Gabula, Kirunda deliberately supplied less voting materials and confused the voters.

The candidates are yet to decide a way forward following the cancellation of the by-elections.
