Former Tanzania Vodacom Premier League Champions Young Africans will face arch-rivals Simba FC tomorrow without Ugandan striker Emmanuel Okwi who has reportedly gone AWOL.

The Uganda Cranes striker Okwi reportedly disappeared from the team early this week and his phones are off.
Baraka Kizuguto, the club’s Information Officer told URN that although they will miss three other key players for the match against Simba FC due to injury, Okwi has vanished. Kizuguto said they suspect the player has returned to Uganda to celebrate Easter without getting clearance from management of the team.

The striker who is no stranger to controversy also disappeared from Tunisian side Etoi di Sahel late last year and returned to join SC Villa in Uganda. He has now disappeared from his Young Africans team in Tanzania.

Okwi was cleared by FIFA late February to feature for Young Africans after a formal complaint by Tunisia’s Etoi du Sahel that he was still their player was thrown out. The Tunisian giants had spent over US$250,000 to sign Okwi from Tanzanian side Simba FC, but the player vanished claiming the contractual obligations had not been fulfilled.

Azam FC, the club another Ugandan player Brian Umony features for are the new champions of the Tanzania Vodacom Premier League and will represent the country at next year’s CAF Champions League, while Young Africans settle for the CAF Confederations Cup.
