One Arrested in Connection With Police Officer Murder

Police have arrested one person in connection with the murder of a police officer in Nyendo on Wednesday night.

The suspect in Police custody has been identified as Ivan Mubiru, a resident of Kasana Zone in Nyendo Ssenyange Division in Masaka District.
 
Mubiru was picked by police detectives from a dilapidated house in Nyendo where he had been hiding a few metres from where police officer was killed.
 
It is alleged that Mubiru and others who are still at large at Kasaana Zone in Nyendo Ssenyange Division in Masaka Municipality, ambushed police officers who were on foot patrol in the area and threw stones at them. In the ensuing fracas, one officer Constable (PPC) No.56366 Mohammad Meera, 27, attached to Masaka Central Police station was fatally injured when he was hit by a huge stone to the head.
 
The Butalejja District native had just been passed out at Kabalye Police training school in Masindi before being posted to Masaka. He was deployed at Masaka Central Police station on 19th April 2013, since he was passed out on 1st April 2013.
 
The Southern Region Police Spokesperson Noah Sserunjoji, confirmed Mubiru's arrest  and said police would continue to hunt for his accomplices.
 
He said Mubiru would face murder charges. 
 
Meela's body was taken to Masaka Referral Hospital mortuary where the injured officers also received treatment.
 
Mubiru is held at Masaka Central police station.
