Online Declaration of Assets Launched in Moroto

There after the officers are expected to make declarations every two years. The IG-Online Declaration System (IG-ODS) enables leaders to submit their declaration of income, assets and liabilities online.

The Inspectorate of Government-IG has launched the online declaration by leaders in Karamoja sub region.   



The leadership code requires public officials to declare their assets and liabilities to the Inspectorate of Government-IG three months after their election or appointment into office as one of the ways of combating corruption.


There after the officers are expected to make declarations every two years. The IG-Online Declaration System (IG-ODS) enables leaders to submit their declaration of income, assets and liabilities online.



The Deputy Inspector General of Government-DIGG, George Bamugemereire says the online declaration is faster, efficient and effective. 


He notes that its launch in Moroto is meant to enable leaders beat the March 31st deadline for declaring their wealth.

The State Minister for Ethics and Integrity, Fr. Simon Lokodo urged leaders to exercise honesty while declaring their assets. Lokodo attributed the rampant corruption in the country to dishonesty and negligence of leaders.

Information from the IG indicates that Moroto had been at 76% with the manual system of declaration but shot up to 93% when the online declaration system was launched in August 2016. 





Andrew Keem Napaja, the Moroto District Chairperson says the launch, which is accompanied by training of leaders is timely since many of them have been fidgeting with apps.  




"We don't have anything to hide, as leaders in Karamoja. The only problem has been with your machines since some of us are still learning the dot com world" he said.
