Over 1000 Pupils Fail Mocks in Ibanda District

One thousand two hundred and thirty primary seven candidates in Ibanda district have failed their mock examinations.  According to the mock results, 148 out of the 3119 pupils who sat the exams passed in division one, 638 in second division, 415 third division and 54 in fourth division.
 

204 pupils didn't show up for the mocks. Peter Nsimire, the Ibanda District Inspector of Schools, says the number of ungraded pupils shows that there is urgent need for intervention and improvement if the pupils are to pass their Primary Leaving Examinations slated for November.

He revealed that urban schools performed better compared to rural school with private schools taking the lead. The situation wasn't any different in the neighboring Ntungamo district.


1615 of the 9929 pupils who sat the mocks examination failed. A similar number passed in division one, 2869 in division two, 1183 in division three, 2455 in division four while 172 pupils didn't complete the examination. Another 20 pupil didn't turn up.


Fred Bahati, the Ntungamo District Inspector of Schools, says the mocki examination results are not good for the district, saying more needs to be done by parents, Pupils and their teachers as well as the education department.
 
Sakina Ampeire, the Ntungamo District LC V Vice chairperson, says it is unfortunate that the worst performers are from government aided schools, which have qualified teachers and adequate learning facilities.
