Col Bosco Omule, the UPDF commandant in charge of Operation Wealth Creation in Lango and parts of Teso sub region says they are investigating a number of beneficiaries who reportedly sold heifers that were given to them. eight of these are from Lango Sub Region.
A section of beneficiaries from Operation Wealth Creation-OWC, are being investigated for reportedly selling heifers received under the program, initiated to enhance household participation in commercial agricultural production.
The program, which runs under the National Agricultural Advisory Services-NAADS, is used for community mobilization, distribution of agricultural inputs, and facilitation of agricultural production chains across the country. It's implemented by the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces - UPDF.

He however declined to divulge details of the individuals allegedly to avoid jeopardizing ongoing investigations but added that about eight of the sold heifers were from beneficiaries, mainly councilors, in Kole district.

The investigation stemmed from a directive issued by the OWC Deputy Director Gen. Julius Oketta.
Major John Alonya, the Lira district overseer of Operation Wealth Creation said persons involved in the purchase and sale of heifers and other produce will be arrested are prosecuted for sabotaging government programs.

Lira District Youth Councilor James Omara Elem welcomes the investigation.
"Councilors and other leaders who received the cows but later sold it should all be arrested and cows be retrieved from those who bought them." Omara insisted.

Omara was recently arrested with other youths including Willy Omodo and Bosco Odongo for inciting violence and issuing information prejudicial to security. The trio had petitioned OWC secretariat and Director Gen. Salim Saleh challenging decision to give leaders heifers.
