Sharon Pajije and Viviane Aketch emerged champions in the women's category of the Club National Beach Volleyball Championship at Lido Beach, Entebbe yesterday.
Sharon Pajije and Viviane Aketch, showed good form to beat fellow Algeria bound team of Mercy Tabitha and Andrina Namata 21-17 to pick more silverware this season in the 3rd leg of the club National Beach Volleyball Circuit at Lido beach on Sunday.
The pair had earlier stopped Jessca Kaidu and Ann Wanyonyi 21-11 at the semifinal stage, while Namata and Tabitha ended Florence Nannyondo and Alice Okecho’s show 21-15 in the other semifinal.
In the men’s category, Nicholas Dheyongera pairing with Hannington Nsubuga beat Isaac Omedo and Amon Ainebyona 21-19, while Richard Tamale and Emma Kato beat Ambrose Okello and Dickens Otim 21-15 to qualify for the final that was not played because of poor light.
A total of 26 teams took part in the Nile Breweries Limited sponsored event. National coach Sam Meya said he was impressed with the improvement in the standards.“The standards get better and better because the players have put in more effort,” said Meya.
The women’s finalists will now resume national team training in preparation for the second round of the Olympic qualification to take place in Algeria in 10 days’ time.
