Patients Shun Bugongi Health Center III over Deplorable State

Patients have shunned Bugongi health center III in Sheema district over its deplorable state. The facility, built in 1980s has been operating without water and electricity for over 10 years and has had no facelift for several years.

Joshua Mugisha, one of the resident's says that conditions at the health center are wanting with no beds for admitted patients, no toilet facilities, equipment and water sources.  He adds that last month, he trekked a distance of 4 kilometers to collect water from a neighboring village for his wife who was in labor.

Bwambale adds that health workers have also abandoned the facility due to poor working conditions and strained relationships with the community.

Rosemary Nyakikongoro, the Sheema Woman Member of Parliament says that most of the health facilities in Sheema district are in a worrying state. She challenges the district leadership to lobby Parliament for increased health budget allocations.

But Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, the Minister of Health said they have been facing a budget constraint for years which is hindering their efforts to improve the health care right from the parishes to the regional referral hospitals.
