Pensioners Want NRM Primaries Boycott Over Arrears

Western Uganda pensioners have threatened to boycott NRM primaries if their concerns are not responded to. This after they petitioned government to halt the payment of their pension arrears until it is uniformly modulated.
Pensioners in the region have reportedly missed three months of their pensions.
 
During a brief meeting at the office of Ankole Region Pensioners' Association (ARPA) in Mbarara Municipality, pensioners were angry that government has not been taking the issue seriously.
 
The members want government to halt release of pensions and set up a team of experts to verify beneficiaries, instead of paying them in batches.
 
The General Secretary of the association, Lawrence Twesigye says they want payments of their gratuity halted nationwide until a general verification and start paying them at once.
 
George Kabakyenga, one of the pensioners argues that government does not consult them on decisions which has led to some of their colleagues' names missing from the pensioner's pay roll, and delays in payments.
 
In the petition dated 20th September, 2015 and addressed to the Ministry of Public Service and Office of the President, the elderly pensioners have given threatened to boycott the upcoming NRM primaries if their concerns are not addressed.
 
The chairperson of the association, Pius Batarinyebwa claims that 10 of their members died due to frustration for failure to get medical support yet government is withholding their money.
 
Parliament on Friday discussed the delayed payment of pensions, and government was tasked to give a comprehensive report to the house on Wednesday.
