An isolation research unit for Ebola and other severe infectious diseases has been established at Fort Portal Regional referral hospital in Kabarole district.

The facility was set up by the Joint Mobile Emerging Disease Intervention Clinical Capability (JMEDICC) in conjunction with Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) and the Infectious Disease Institute.

On Monday journalists were taken on a guided tour of the facility. Demonstrations were carried out showing how patients suffering from Ebola, Marburg and other severe infectious diseases will be managed at the facility and how the health workers should protect themselves from infection
