On Wednesday, hundreds of mourners gathered at Namirembe Cathedral in a requiem mass for the late Jehoash Mayanja Nkangi.

The church service led by Bishop Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira of Namirembe Diocese attracted key central government and Buganda Kingdom officials.

Speakers from both the central government and Buganda Kingdom described Nkangi as a focused, selfless and patriotic leader whose example ought to be emulated.

Some of the officials in attendance included the Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Chief Justice Bart Katureebe, Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa, Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa, Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda (BOU) Louis Kasekende and others.

Also in attendance were the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago and former prime ministers Amama Mbabazi and Apollo Nsibambi. The Buganda Kingdom officials were led by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and his deputies, former Katikkiro Dan Muliika, Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere, Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and Prince Kassim Nakibinge among others.
