Business grounded to a halt at Iganga road in Jinja town on Saturday afternoon during an operation by Flying squad unit operatives to arrest suspected armed robbers.

 
The four suspects, who were armed with a pistol, were standing outside a mini supermarket in the area. The suspects are Stanley Gambwa, Brian Ssempijja, Swaibu Kalijonjo and Fred Mayinja.


The suspects first resisted arrest and tried to flee prompting the officers to fire bullets in air that forced them to surrender.

"These four have been rotating around this supermarket for more than two hours and I was puzzled but I decided to mind my business because I was busy attending to my customers," Kalulu said.
 

Diana Nandawula, the Kiira Region police spokesperson, says the suspects have been using the pistol to rob different shops in Jinja town.

 
"We have intelligence information linking these suspects to a good number of robberies in Jinja town and we are still hunting for more," Nandawula she said.
 

The suspects are locked up at Jinja Central Police Station and investigations are ongoing.
